Hello there please can you help me? I have just bought a lgcx and I don't have a soundbar I have a amp receiver. I have tried everything to only use the lgcx as my volume up and down but I can not seem to make it work. I do not want to use the sound receiver remote. Please can you help? Kind regards Paul

Yeah no I'm not resorting to bluetooth audio just for convenience.

Best I can do on my setup is switch to optical out to adjust the volume of the soundbar then back to both.

It's odd that my previous 2 TVs (both Samsung) would allow the remote to control both no problem yet with my latest TV (an LG) it's all ass backward🤓😂🤦‍♂️

Or you can use "Universal Control Settings" and keep using optical… A couple ways to get there On Remote press "Sources" button, then "Universal Control Settings". Or press "Home Dashboard" and find it in the "…" menu in upper right. Or press "Home" button and find "Home Dashboard" there. After you get to "Universal Control Settings" select optical, then select brand and go thru the steps. You should be able to control sound bar with remote AND have it still be optical.

Posting this because Google recommended this video to me. Bluetooth < Optical.

I've got an LG 55UP8000 55" wired via optic cable to an LG SN6Y soundbar. Had the same issue as you described that I couldn't control the sound via the magic remote. I found a TV sound setting that enables me to do so: Go to Settings > Audio > Advanced settings > LG Sound sync
That should do it! Hope that helps someone 🙂

I just hooked up a new c1 to spectrum cable and trying to link cable remote to adjust volume but can’t. I can change channels but can’t change the volume with the cable remote. Any help Would be appreciated

I found the way to control the sound bar with the LG Magic Remote while keeping the high quality Optical connection. Follow these 2 steps:
    1. Follow this instructions here (which were not sufficient in my case, see step 2): https://www.support.com/how-to/program-lg-magic-remote-to-control-sonos-soundbar-13168
    2. On the TV setting, go to Sound Out -> Long-press ok on the Optical option, which leads to the Sound Out menu. Under Optional option (and this is the counter-intuitive part), make sure the option "LG Sound Sync" is OFF.

The correct way to control an LG soundbar from the GX TV by just using the TV's remote, is to set up the soundbar as a remote controlled device (connected by eARC on HDMI socket 2), and enabling the CEC / simplink option under the connection menu > device connection settings. That way you will guarantee the best possible audio quality (including Dolby Atmos and DTX, if your sound bar supports it) rather than a very limited Bluetooth connection!
